Grass Types

Choosing Your Sod Type

We hear a lot of advertising these days from national companies, claiming to offer new grass varieties that possess a ground-breaking technology or characteristic. It is nearly impossible for the average consumer to differentiate between what is real and what is just creative marketing.

We grow grasses based on their proven performance in our local climate, not on national marketing claims. Over the years we have tested numerous new varieties that, due to inferior performance, we never brought to market.  You can be assured that the grasses we do offer have been chosen to perform well here in America’s heartland.

Our Premium Quality Turfgrasses

Heartland Fescue

Our flagship turfgrass, Heartland Fescue is our top seller and the number one choice for St. Louis area lawns. Heartland Fescue is a blend of three or four elite seed varieties, chosen for year-long green color, medium-to-fine texture, and resistance to summer diseases.  It is well suited for residential and commercial lawns, parks, high-traffic athletic fields, and golf course roughs and green surrounds. click to learn more

Kentucky Bluegrass has been a traditional turfgrass for cool-season lawns since our family began growing sod in the 1960’s.  It has medium-to-fine, soft grass blades and a deep blue-green color. Our Kentucky bluegrass sod is a blend of modern hybrid varieties with a more compact growth pattern, allowing it to tolerate lower mowing heights for high-performance athletic fields and golf courses.  Under proper care, it also makes a beautiful lawn grass, forming a dense turf that is deep green in color and soft to walk on. click to learn more
